Acoustic Particle Counter for Fluids
IDI has developed
an acoustic sensor system that can detect and classify very small wear
debris (>5microns) in lubricating oil and other fluids.
Acoustic Transducer Operation:
The transducer focuses broadband ultrasound energy
into the fluid. The transducer functions as both the transmitter and receiver.
Particles within the focal region reflect the energy generating pulse
echoes proportional to the size of the particle. The transducer is mounted
in-line through the pipe wall perpendiculr to the flow.
The system provides prognostic wear status and trend information that
can be used in a condition based maintenance program.
Applications
- Helicopter/Tiltrotor gearbox chip detector
- Aircraft turbine engine fluid monitor
